- **MCP: what if you could run your local marketing from ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot?**

ChatGPT to write a post, Claude to analyze your Excel spreadsheets, your [local marketing platform](https://www.digitaleo.com/en)to reply to customers or manage your Google listings…

**Copy, paste, switch tabs, repeat.** That is still the daily routine for most marketing teams, at headquarters and in stores alike.

Generative AI has already changed the way you write. But until now, it remained **cut off from your tools and your data**. It could advise, but not act.

That is exactly what **MCP (Model Context Protocol)** changes. This open standard lets your favorite AI assistant connect directly to your business software, so it can look up your data and trigger actions without leaving the conversation.

So what does it actually mean? And what difference does it make for a retail network or a single store?

## 1. What is MCP?

### A "universal plug" between AI and your tools

Remember when every phone had its own charger? Then USB-C came along: one cable that works with everything.

**MCP is the USB-C of artificial intelligence.**

Before MCP, connecting an AI assistant to a piece of software required custom development, tool by tool, AI by AI. Slow, expensive, and rarely done.

With MCP, a software vendor builds **a single connection**. It can then be used from every compatible AI platform: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot…

With MCP, a tool connects once to every AI Before With MCP ChatGPTClaudeCopilot Customer reviewsGoogle listingsCampaigns ChatGPTClaudeCopilot Customer reviewsGoogle listingsCampaigns MCP One custom connection per AI and per tool One shared standard, compatible with every AI

Before / with MCP: 3 AIs, 3 tools

### What it makes possible

Once connected to a tool through MCP, your AI can:

- **Read** your data: statistics, customer reviews, Google listings, contacts, campaigns…
- **Act** inside the tool: create a draft post, prepare a reply to a review, schedule a campaign…
- **Combine** several tools in a single request: your calendar, your files, your marketing platform.

You make your request in plain language, and the AI takes care of the rest. **No more switching tabs.**

### An open standard, already adopted by the tech giants

MCP was launched in late 2024 by Anthropic, the company behind Claude. In less than a year, it became the market reference:

- ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Cursor have all adopted it;
- more than 10,000 public MCP servers are active;
- since December 2025, it has been entrusted to the Linux Foundation, within the Agentic AI Foundation co-founded by Anthropic, OpenAI and Block. ([source](https://www.anthropic.com/news/donating-the-model-context-protocol-and-establishing-of-the-agentic-ai-foundation))

In other words, MCP belongs to no one. It is a shared standard, like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. **And that is what guarantees its longevity.**

## 2. Why is MCP a game changer for local marketing?

For a retail network, local marketing means dozens (or even hundreds) of stores, scattered data and teams that are short on time. MCP addresses all three challenges.

### AI comes to you, not the other way around

Your teams already use ChatGPT, Copilot or Claude every day. With MCP, **your marketing tools come to the AI they already know**. No new interface to learn, no heavy training.

### Answers based on your real data

A general-purpose AI gives you general advice. Connected to your tools, it relies on **the real data from your stores**: your reviews, your Google rankings, your campaigns. No more answers "in the abstract".

### From advice to action, in a single conversation

AI no longer just makes suggestions. It can **prepare the action directly in your tool**: a draft post, a reply to a review, a campaign ready to send. You stay in control and approve.

### Your tools finally work together

MCP lets you cross-reference several sources in a single request. For example: your sales, your in-store events calendar and your customer reviews. **What used to take a morning of compiling now takes one question.**

| Before MCP | With MCP |
| --- | --- |
| AI writes, you copy and paste into your tools | AI prepares the action directly in the tool |
| Generic advice | Recommendations based on your data |
| One tab per tool | A single conversation |
| Custom connections, rare and expensive | A shared standard across every AI on the market |

## 3. Six concrete use cases, from headquarters to the store

To picture it, imagine your usual AI assistant connected to your local marketing platform. Here is what you could ask it.

### For the network's marketing team

**1. Track network performance with a single question**

*"Which 10 stores saw their Google rating drop the most this quarter, and why?"*

The AI reviews each store's customer feedback, identifies trends (checkout wait times, welcome, stock availability…) and delivers a summary ready to share with the leadership team.

**2. Roll out a national campaign locally**

*"Prepare the Google and Facebook posts for our back-to-school campaign for all 50 stores, adapting the copy to each city."*

The AI creates the drafts directly in your tool. Your teams just need to review and approve.

**3. Prepare a network review in minutes**

*"Compare local visibility in the West region and the South region, and suggest three priority actions."*

Google rankings, reviews, posts: the AI cross-references the metrics and makes well-argued recommendations.

### For the store manager

**4. Reply to reviews without spending the whole evening on it**

*"Show me this week's reviews that haven't been answered yet and suggest a reply for each one."*

The manager reviews, adjusts if needed, and approves. Customers get a personalized reply, and the Google listing becomes more attractive.

**5. Announce an in-store event in one message**

*"We're holding a tasting day on Saturday: update my hours on Google and prepare a post to announce it."*

One request, two actions ready to go, without opening a single tool.

**6. Know how your store is doing, simply**

*"How does my store compare with the rest of the network on customer reviews?"*

No need to be a dashboard expert: the answer comes in plain language, with ideas for improvement.

**And in your network, which task would you delegate first?**

## 4. What to keep in mind before getting started

MCP opens up exciting opportunities. Like any technology that touches your data, it calls for a few precautions.

- **Stay in control of actions.** Favor tools where the AI suggests and you approve before anything is published or sent.
- **Check access rights.** A store manager should only see their own store, headquarters the whole network. Good MCP connections respect the permissions set in the original tool.
- **Choose trusted vendors.** Data hosting, GDPR compliance, transparency about how AI is used: ask the right questions before connecting a tool.
- **Start small.** One or two well-chosen use cases beat a full-scale rollout. Measure the time saved, then expand.

**AI remains a copilot: the decision is yours.**

## 5. Conclusion: your marketing tools, soon right where you already work

MCP marks a turning point. AI no longer just writes alongside your tools: **it connects to them and works with you.**

For retail networks, it promises local marketing that is easier to steer from headquarters and easier to run in stores. Fewer tabs, less copy and paste, more time for your customers.

The question is no longer whether your marketing tools will be accessible from AI. **It is when.**

## 6. FAQ

### What does MCP stand for?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot…) connect to external software to look up data and perform actions.

### Do you need to be a developer to use MCP?

No. The software vendor builds the MCP connection. On your side, you simply enable the connector in your AI assistant, then write your requests in plain language.

### What is the difference between MCP and an AI agent?

An AI agent is an assistant capable of reasoning and acting autonomously, often built into a piece of software. MCP is the "cable" that lets any AI access that software. The two are complementary.

### Is my data secure?

MCP respects the access rights defined in each tool. Security then depends on the choices made by the vendor and the AI platform you use: hosting, GDPR compliance, data usage policy.

### Which AI platforms are compatible with MCP?

The main ones: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, along with many specialized tools.
